Here is our first stop along the Johnstone Strait...Helmcken Island into Billy Goat Bay. We always wanted to stop here and voila!....a great anchorage. Along the way we saw the SV Martin Sheen being escorted out of Campbell River by the Coast Guard. (a ship that is associated with the Sea Shepard). Then we saw … Continue reading Oh that Johnstone Strait!
Prideaux Haven
The last we updated was we were leaving Nanaimo. Our new engine installed and we were raring to get our round-the-island trip started. We crossed the strait with what we thought would be good winds (from the south) and we knew the tides would be opposite for a couple hours....but we were not a. prepared … Continue reading Prideaux Haven
Almost done…….
The engine is almost done...but they either had to move the engine back 3 inches or rebuild our stairs. So in 1 day, the mechanic moved the engine and reattached all the hoses. Now that it fits....we have to wait for a mixing elbow (a shorter one) from Vancouver. We couldn't fathom yet another weekend … Continue reading Almost done…….
The Boatyard Life
While we wait for a new longer prop shaft and the installation of our new engine....we are living well in our borrowed minimoho in Stones Boatyard in Nanaimo. We are parked close to the fence (notice the barbed wire between us and Millers Pub next door) and the main gates are closed and locked between … Continue reading The Boatyard Life
Out with the Old and In with the New
Our engine repowering has begun. We are 'glamping' very close to the boat so we have a full view of what is going on with Dakota. Yesterday the old engine was removed by Trend Diesel and the yard staff. I heard "hurry up this thing is heavy" yelled out several times by the workers. We … Continue reading Out with the Old and In with the New
Out of Vancouver and onto Plan B
It was time to leave the fun city of Vancouver and start our journey northward. First stop Gambier Island and anchored in Graves Harbour. Great sail out of Vancouver tacking back and forth between the many sailboats and large ships out there. On our way out of False creek, Dave had to yell at one … Continue reading Out of Vancouver and onto Plan B
Chilling in the City
Well, we have finally left Nanaimo and are happily anchored in Vancouver- False Creek. Ah...the sounds of a big city. We have paddlers, SUPers, dingys and ferries racing by us, and looking up at the land we see cyclist, walkers and joggers. Vancouver certainly has a certain ‘energy vibe’! We left Nanaimo after breakfast and … Continue reading Chilling in the City
Small glitch in the plan
I know, I know....when you are out on a sail boat there is no actual plan. Maybe a guideline but no set plan. Here we are back at a dock...but this time in Nanaimo and we are waiting for a welder to come fix the propshaft. We headed from Maple Bay to Montague harbour and … Continue reading Small glitch in the plan
Ready or Not…off we go!

Life at the Dock
Here we are still at MapleBay Marina. We've been liveaboards about 6 weeks now and have already got a routine down. Of course, once we leave the dock, the routine will change. A day in our life at the dock consists of: Most days we start our morning with about 15-20 mins of stretching yoga … Continue reading Life at the Dock
